Agriculture courses - Eligibility

H.Sc. / Equivalent - Academic Stream

Students who want to apply for the B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture or B.Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture degree programs must have passed the Higher Secondary Course (10+2) or any other equivalent examination. They must also have studied the following subjects:

  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Mathematics
  • Biology

For the B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture degree program, students can also choose to study Botany and Zoology instead of Mathematics. For the B.Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture degree program, students can also choose to study Forestry instead of Mathematics.

When calculating the merit of a candidate, the marks scored in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology will be considered. If a candidate had studied four subjects in 10+2 or intermediate, the marks scored in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology will still be considered when calculating the merit list.

There are two seats reserved for candidates under the Vocational Stream (Agriculture) for admission to the B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture degree program. These seats are not considered under general merit or any of the reservation categories. Candidates who studied any one of the following subjects are eligible to apply for the B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture degree program:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Economics
  • Home Science

The Vocational subjects that candidates must have studied include:

  • Agricultural Chemicals
  • Crop Production
  • Crop Protection
  • Small Farm Management
  • Sericulture & Apiculture
  • Vegetable and Fruits
  • Spices & Plantation crops
  • Floriculture & Medicinal Plants
  • Home Science

Other State Vocational stream students are not eligible to apply.

Eligible Minimum Qualifying Marks (Academic Stream)

U.T. of Puducherry:

Open Competition:
OC / Open General: 50% in aggregate of all three subjects.
OBC / Backward Class Muslim (BCM) / Most Backward Class (MBC) / Extreme Backward Class (EBC) / Backward Tribe (BT)/Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST): 40% aggregate of all the subjects.
Other State / Other U.Ts.:

SC/ST: 40% aggregate of all the three subjects.
All Other Communities: 50% aggregate of all the three subjects.
In other words, to be eligible for admission to the B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture or B.Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture degree programs, students must have scored at least the following marks in the Higher Secondary Course (10+2) or any other equivalent examination:

U.T. of Puducherry:
Open Competition: 50% in aggregate of all three subjects.

Number of Attempts to pass

For the purpose of qualifying examination marks, the maximum number of attempts to pass and maximum number of improvement examination for admission to B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture/Horticulture course are as follows:

Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes: Three attempts to pass and one attempt for improvement.
All Other Communities: Two attempts to pass and one attempt for improvement.
In other words, students who belong to the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes can take up to three attempts to pass the qualifying examination and one attempt for improvement. Students who belong to all other communities can take up to two attempts to pass the qualifying examination and one attempt for improvement.
